About EARG
Who We Are
EA Research Group (EARG) is a Ghanaian non-governmental, non-profit research and capacity-building organization dedicated to strengthening academic research, evidence generation, and knowledge-driven development in Northern Ghana and beyond.
Founded by experienced researchers and development practitioners, EARG was established to address a critical gap in Ghana’s development landscape: the limited structured pathways that enable talented final-year students and young graduates to transition into postgraduate education, academic careers, and professional research practice.
At its core, EARG is committed to building sustainable local research capacity while delivering high-quality, ethical, and policy-relevant research services. The organization operates through an integrated model that combines a structured Mentorship Fellowship Program with a professional Consultancy and Research Services Arm. Through the Fellowship Program, emerging scholars receive intensive training in research methods, data analysis, scientific writing, ethics, and academic professionalism, alongside hands-on experience working on real research projects under senior mentorship. This approach equips fellows to compete successfully for postgraduate admissions, research funding, and academic opportunities.
EARG’s Consultancy Arm provides evidence-based research and advisory services to non-governmental organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, development partners, and private sector actors. Revenue generated through consultancy work is reinvested to fund fellowships, postgraduate scholarships, and organizational growth, ensuring both financial sustainability and long-term social impact.
EARG’s mission aligns strongly with global, continental, and national development priorities. The organization contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
At the continental level, EARG supports the African Union’s Agenda 2063 by promoting people-driven development and youth empowerment. Nationally, EARG aligns with Ghana’s education, research, and human capital development goals by strengthening postgraduate participation and generating evidence to inform policy and practice.
Headquartered in Tamale, EA Research Group works closely with universities, communities, and partners to advance ethical research, academic excellence, and sustainable development across Ghana and Africa.
Model in Practice
EARG operates a dual-arm model. The Mentorship Fellowship provides classroom training in research design, data collection, analysis and scientific writing; fellows are paired with mentors and then placed on active research projects for hands-on experience.
The Consultancy Arm offers robust field research, M&E and advisory services to NGOs, government and private sector clients. Consultancy teams intentionally pair trainees (fellows) with senior mentors to uphold quality and provide learning opportunities.
A pre-defined portion of net consultancy revenue is ring-fenced to fund the Scholarship Scheme that supports outstanding fellows pursuing postgraduate studies within Ghana. This cycle creates a self-reinforcing pipeline: training → practical experience → funded advancement → stronger research capacity locally.
Structure & Governance
EARG is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Secretariat led by the Executive Director. We publish audited financial statements annually, maintain internal controls and operate under policies covering finance, procurement, safeguarding and data protection. Research ethics apply to all field activities; community consent and data protection are practiced consistently. The Constitution and governance documents are available for partners and donors on request.
Founder's Story
EA Research Group was founded by Emmanuel Adom, a Ghanaian researcher, academic, and development practitioner whose work sits at the intersection of research excellence, mentorship, and community-driven impact. Emmanuel’s journey into academia and research has been shaped by firsthand experience with the structural challenges faced by talented students in Northern Ghana—limited access to mentorship, inadequate exposure to practical research, and few clear pathways into postgraduate education and academic careers.
Trained in pharmacognosy, herbal medicine, and biodiversity-related research, Emmanuel has spent years teaching, mentoring, and conducting community-based research across Ghana. Through his academic and fieldwork experiences, he observed a recurring pattern: many capable students possessed the intellectual ability to succeed in research and higher education but lacked structured guidance, practical exposure, and financial support. This gap often resulted in lost potential and underrepresentation of Northern Ghanaian scholars in postgraduate programs and research leadership spaces.
Driven by a conviction that local challenges require locally trained researchers, Emmanuel founded EA Research Group as a platform to systematically nurture emerging scholars while delivering credible, ethical, and policy-relevant research. His vision was to create an institution that does not merely train individuals, but builds a sustainable ecosystem—where mentorship, real-world research, and financial reinvestment work together to advance academic careers and strengthen national research capacity.
Under Emmanuel’s leadership, EA Research Group is positioned as both a training ground for future academics and a trusted research partner for institutions committed to evidence-based development in Ghana and across Africa.
